Tween Retreat 2010

Finished the hats for the tween retreat!!

We received a grant from the Lassen Parks Foundation that is entirely paying for our retreat this year! It should be a lot of fun. We are going to use the rocks we made for VBS to build an alter, just like in Genesis...

California Smith and the Raiders of the lost heart

Vacation Bible School went very well last week!!
The teens did a great job leading the groups,

although everyone was dragging by the end...

the skits were very well done,
and the kids had a great time!!

The bad guy, Arizona Joe, (played by James) even got saved on Friday.

I am putting up pictures mainly of the cast and crew,
because I don't want to post peoples kids without permission...

All the kids enjoyed running from the boulder to the bridge,

and crossing the bridge over lava to reach safety on the other side.

They wanted to do it again and again!!

They also enjoyed boulder ball (dodge ball)
and the other activities.

On Friday, we made a slip-n-slide with plastic and jello, and they slid down it to grab gems. They earned gems all week for bible verses, and for bringing canned food donations.

California Smith gave out signed trading cards to kids for random acts of kindness.

Teresa is down at kids camp for her church this week, she will be back Thursday night, and we will leave Friday for our next big adventure:
Tween Retreat at Lassen!!

Swimming/Making props 7/12/10

Monday the kids romped in the pool for a bit, and then Becky and I finished painting the arch and the rest of the boulders.

Tuesday I finished painting all the T-shirts, and Pastor Bud helped me move the arch back inside the building before our Leadership meeting.

VBS is next week!!!

The props are done, the craft materials are all gathered, Friday I will be going to Redding with Susan to buy food for snacks and lunches.

Making props

One week until VBS!!!!!

On Saturday, we built the cave entrance.

After wrapping an archway in craft paper and masking tape, we paper mache'd the whole thing.

Thomas ripped strips of paper,
while Becky and James sponge painted dry rocks.
(Thomas painted for a while, also)

Pastor Bud even stopped by to help rip strips for a while, while George and I got our hands dirty.

I will paint it today or tomorrow, now that it has had a chance to dry.
